"When's the best time to have our photos taken?" It's one of the most common questions we're asked — and the lovely answer is that there isn't really a wrong time. Each season on the Fylde coast brings its own character, light and beauty. Here's a guide to what each one offers, so you can choose the moment that feels right for you.
Spring: fresh, bright and full of life
Spring is a gorgeous time for photos. The light is soft and clear, gardens and parks come alive with blossom and greenery, and there's a real sense of renewal in the air. Spots like Stanley Park and Fairhaven Lake look especially beautiful, and the milder weather makes for comfortable, relaxed outdoor sessions — perfect for families with young children.
Summer: long golden evenings
Summer brings the longest days and that beautiful warm light, especially in the "golden hour" before sunset. The beaches at Lytham, St Annes and Bispham are at their best, and balmy evenings make for dreamy, glowing portraits. It's the busiest season for weddings and outdoor shoots, so it's well worth booking ahead if you've got summer in mind.
Autumn: warmth, colour and atmosphere
For many photographers, autumn is a secret favourite. The low golden sun, rich russet tones and dramatic skies create wonderfully atmospheric images, and the parks and countryside around the Fylde turn beautiful shades of amber and gold. It's a stunning time for family sessions and couples shoots, with a cosy, characterful feel.
Winter: crisp light and festive magic
Don't write off winter. Crisp, clear days produce beautifully soft, flattering light, and there's a stillness to the coast in the colder months that makes for striking, moody images. It's also, of course, the season for festive studio sessions — a magical way to create Christmas cards and gifts. Bare trees and dramatic estuary skies have a quiet beauty all their own.
Indoor sessions: any time, any weather
If you'd rather not leave anything to the weather, a studio session gives you complete control year-round — warm, comfortable and beautifully lit, whatever's happening outside. It's ideal for newborns, cake smashes, themed portraits and family photos in the depths of a Lancashire winter.
A few timing tips
• Book ahead for peak times. Summer weekends and the run-up to Christmas fill up fast.
• Think about the light, not just the date. The hour after sunrise and before sunset is flattering in every season.
• Match the season to the feel you want. Fresh and bright? Choose spring or summer. Warm and cosy? Autumn and winter are perfect.
• Don't wait for the "perfect" moment. The best time is often simply now — children grow, families change, and today won't come again.
